Gothenburg has been a vital and important music-city for decades and is continuing to grow and develop.

The city is home for the biggest outdoor arena in Scandinavia, Ullevi. This arena has been the home for outdoor concerts since the early 80's. Beside this, the city has a number of indoor venues and an important clubscene.

The Academy of Music and Drama, holds a large amount of well renowned programmes within higher musical education. An important reason that Gothenburg stands out as a music-city is our high class recording studios that has attracted international acts since the mid 80s.

The city has several annual music events and festivals, such as Way Out West and Summerburst. The city organises the annual Gothenburg Culture Festival, an event that takes place during one week in August and attracts 1,4 million visits. Since 2017 Viva Sounds has been growing their international club festival and music conference, inviting delegates and artists from Europe and other parts of the world.
