Groningen

Groningen is the number two music city of The Netherlands. Guess who is number one? As host of the international Eurosonic Noorderslag festival with its 40.000 visitors, the free accessible Liberation Day festival with its 100.000+ visitors and its numerous small and big venues for upcoming and international artists, we can honestly say that music is in our DNA. Groningen caters 56.000 (inter)national students and is the city with the youngest population of the country. Groningen has a vivid and diverse Dance and DJ scene, one of the fastest growing industries in the world. All the above makes that we consider ourselves not only as a music city but also as a city of talent.

The next four years we‘ll focus on developing local cultural talent by providing scholarships for classical and modern musicians, by supporting new festivals that focus on local (music)talent and by broadening and enriching the collaboration between local and regional governments in the three northers Dutch provinces as well as between the members of the Music Cities Network.
