Hi MCN friends,

Spring is here, and with it comes that familiar momentum across our cities. New projects are taking shape, festivals are preparing their programmes, and our MCN calendar is slowly filling up again.

Today we will dive into:

• Gothenburg’s upcoming Viva Summer Sounds live event

• València’s new ecosystem tool: València Music Map

MCN at Tallinn Music Week (9–12 April)

MCN will be back in Tallinn for Tallinn Music Week soon! Please find below how you can locate us:

🗓 10 April – MCN Visibility Day - MCN Panel – 12:15–13:15

Resilient Music Ecosystems: How City Networks Connect Local Action with European Responsibility

Music ecosystems grow locally - in venues, rehearsal spaces, education programmes and communities. But their long-term resilience depends on structures that go beyond city borders.

This panel connects insights from Tallinn Music City Day with the wider European discussion around the music ecosystem (8th Music Moves Europe Dialogue Session). Together we’ll explore what cities are currently navigating and how city networks help translate local action into shared European progress.

🥂 MCN & UNESCO City of Music Tallinn Reception & Showcase – from 18:00

Later that evening we’ll co-host a networking reception and showcase together with UNESCO City of Music Tallinn - bringing policymakers, industry professionals and artists into one room (as we do).

The showcase was selected from more than 40 applications from UNESCO and MCN cities. The final line-up:

  • RAKEL – Reykjavik (MCN)

  • Alonette – Tallinn Music City

  • Merry – Aalborg (MCN)

  • INGER – Tallinn Music City

  • TANAKA – Belfast (UNESCO City of Music)

  • heleenyum – Tallinn Music City

  • TYSK – Kharkiv (UNESCO City of Music)

P.S. Aarhus-based act Døtre, who applied independently, has also been booked directly by the festival and will perform on Thursday evening. Don’t miss out on their gig!

16 April - MCN at c/o pop Convention – Music City Strategies Panel

By invitation of our dear colleague Daniela from Düsseldorf, Lena will represent MCN at the c/o pop Convention in Cologne this April.

The panel explores how cities strategically develop music ecosystems, build international connections, and position themselves as music cities in the long term.

Organised by MUSIC DÜSSELDORF, together with our dear colleague Daniela Stork, the discussion brings together perspectives from music industry professionals, cultural policy, city marketing and international networks. It will also highlight Düsseldorf’s growing role as a music city - “City of Live” - while connecting it to broader international best practices.

MEMBER NEWS

Gothenburg - Viva Summer Sounds

Our colleagues in Gothenburg are preparing something special for the summer as well.

Viva Summer Sounds takes place June 6 at Musikens Hus - a live night out built around a simple but exciting idea:six bands, two stages, one ticket.

Sounds dreamy right? The format invites audiences to move through the venue and discover a diverse line-up of artists across the evening.

The first act has already been announced: Tchotchke - with more artists to be revealed soon.

València - Mapping the Music Ecosystem

València Music City has launched a new project that many cities working on ecosystem development will find inspiring. The València Music Map is an interactive platform that visualises the city’s music ecosystem - bringing together venues, rehearsal spaces, studios, festivals, educational centres and many other actors shaping musical life in the city.

The goal is twofold:

• make the local ecosystem more visible and accessible

• create a practical tool for cultural planning and international collaboration

Before you go - one small ask

If any of these updates spark an idea - a collaboration, a similar project in your city, or simply curiosity - hit reply and tell us.

The strength of MCN is still the same:

one city shares something, another city recognises the challenge, and a new connection begins.

Warm regards,

your MCN Headquarter
