Sunderland will become the first UK city to host the Music Cities Network (MCN) Summer Summit, taking place from 18–20 June 2026, with a full week of wraparound activity across the city.

The Summit arrives in the final week of Sunderland’s Year of Music, marking a key moment for the city and bringing together international delegates to explore music ecosystem policy, cross-sector collaboration, and innovation. As part of this, ‘Summit Week Sunderland’ will extend the programme beyond the core Summit days - featuring public performances, artist exchanges, and international showcases.

Together, the Summit and its wider programme offer a unique opportunity to experience Sunderland’s music ecosystem in practice, while connecting with peers from across the MCN network and beyond.

“This Summit not only celebrates how far we’ve come, but sets the stage for Sunderland’s future as a connected, innovative and internationally engaged music city.”

  • Michelle Daurant, CEO, Sunderland Music City

“In Sunderland, we bring ideas into practice: connecting members, sharing real experiences, and working across policy and practice to turn direction into action.”

  • Lena Ingwersen, Managing Director, Music Cities Network
